Let your voice be heard! Student Video Submission

SOS! (Save our Students, Schools and State) is asking that students get involved in the campaign to help save our schools. We’re hosting a video submission and asking that students from across Michigan flex their creative muscles to show Lansing legislators that cuts to education equate to more than numbers on a page.

As part of the Internet generation, you’re in a unique position to use the technology of the 21st century to mobilize like never before. The ask is simple, gather a group of friends or classmates and create a unique video to be featured on a statewide Web site. We’re hoping this video will be viral in nature so that many people will watch it through word of mouth (think YouTube). The video should include:

  • A student’s perspective of state government (not Washington, D.C. – if you don’t know who your state representative or senator are, ask your government teacher);

  • How local cuts affect your education;

  • What’s unique about your school;

  • Programs you once had that are no longer offered; and

  • A demand for action to legislators.

All videos will be considered for posting, but only videos that are respectful and thoughtful will be posted (please limit videos to five minutes … I know, we’re asking for creativity in small doses). This is a chance for you to show off your skills that we at SOS! may be lacking—we can use FaceBook and Twitter, but the advanced technological tools confound us.

Please submit your videos by Feb. 5, 2010 for consideration. For questions, contact Peter Spadafore at pspadafore@masb.org.

Thank you,
